FRISCO, Texas -- FC Dallas remained indoors for the second day of preseason training at Fieldhouse USA in Frisco, Texas Thursday. Following stretching and warm-ups, FC Dallas Assistant Coach John Ellinger handed out pinnies and the four teams worked their way through a series of stations.

Sidelined
Daniel Hernandez (right knee), who is recovering from offseason surgery worked out on the sidelines with the FC Dallas training staff. He was joined by Kyle Davies (left ankle surgery), George John (left ankle bone spur) and Zach Loyd, who tweaked his ankle during yesterday’s training session. Supplemental draft pick Paul Ogunyemi and Home Grown player Jonathan Top were also held out of practice due to pending physicals.
Station One
On the south end of the field, FC Dallas Assistant Coach Marco Ferruzzi led players in a shooting drill that focused on perfecting their first touch in on goal. The drill would begin with players working a ball around the top of the area. The final pass would come to a player standing on either flank, roughly 15 yards from goal. With a defender to beat, the player’s first touch needed to open up a shooting lane and put the shooter in the best possible position to beat the ‘keeper. Josh Lambo and Craig Hill took turns patrolling the goal.
Station Two
The second drill, led by FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman, focused on a staple of FC Dallas soccer – combination play in a small area. Hyndman instructed players to keep the ball on the floor while working the ball around a stationary defender. Once the players mastered the combination, Hyndman would switch the passing order. For the last repetition of the drill, players were told to “improvise” and create their own solutions.
Station Three
Ellinger and FC Dallas Director of Player Development Oscar Pareja led a second shooting drill on the north end of the field. Starting from midfield, the shooter would knock the ball wide before making a run down the middle of the field. From the flank, a second player would send the ball to the corner, where a third player would send a centering pass in on the floor to the target forward, who would finish with their first touch.
Teams would rotate from one station to the next every 15 minutes. After 45 minutes, the coaching staff opened up the field for head-to-head competition.

Blue versus White
Seton Hall product Brayan Martinez brought the ball down the left flank before slipping a short pass inside to Ruben Luna. Luna turned his defender and dribbled through traffic before finding the back of the net for a 1-0 victory.
Red versus Green
On the counter-attack, Maykel Galindo hit a low cross to the back post. The pass split the defenders and Jair Benitez finished with his first touch to give green a 1-0 lead. Red evened the score a few minutes later when Moises Hernandez won a ball back in his offensive third and quickly found Emerson Hyndman in the corner. Hyndman picked out Peri Marosevic at the back post, who finished to make the score 1-1. The match ended in a draw shortly after.
Red versus White
Martinez shined again in his second match, combining with David Ferreira for a pretty goal. Ferreira controlled the ball to the right of goal before sending a pass inside to Martinez. Martinez overran the pass and trapped the ball with his back foot to avoid a defender before beating the first defender with a return pass to Ferreira. Ferreira took a touch wide before beating the goalkeeper and second defender with a cutting pass to the back post to Martinez, who finished easily for a 1-0 win.
Green and blue drew 0-0 in the next match. Green remained on the field to face white.
White versus Green
Controlling the ball in their offensive third, white got two shots off on goal before breaking through. Again, Martinez was involved. Bruno Guarda knocked a ball to the back post for Martinez to finish, but the midfielder faked the shot and knocked a ball laterally to Luna for one of his simple trademark finishes.
