FC Dallas Training Report: 4/6

training: 4-6

FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas began this morning’s training session on the adidas field at Pizza Hut Park with ladder work on the west sideline.

Quick Feet
In three separate lines, players would take turns running patterns of foot movements through the ladders, which were stretched out for a distance of 10 yards. After completing several variations of the drill, each of which ended with a one-touch pass back to the feet of a member of the coaching staff, FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman separated the squad up into two teams of 12 for a warm-up game in an 80-yard area.

Teams
Orange: Jackson, Andrew Wiedeman, Ugo Ihemelu, Andrew Jacobson, Zach Loyd, Jonathan Top, Ricardo Villar, Bryan Leyva, Milton Rodriguez, Daniel Hernandez, Peri Marosevic, Fabian Castillo.

Blue: Victor Ulloa, Marvin Chavez, George John, Brek Shea, Bruno Guarda, Ruben Luna, David Ferreira, Maykel Galindo, Eric Alexander, Jair Benitez, Eric Avila, Marco Ferruzzi.

Highlights

  • Eric Avila and Peri Marosevic traded two points very early in the drill. Avila gained a point for his team when he knocked his first shot of the day into one of the two outside goals located near the south corner flag.

  • Going the opposite direction, Marosevic found some space in the middle of the field and blasted a two-point strike into the near upper-90 from 25 yards out.

  • Avila tied the game seconds later after breaking free once again down the left side for a second one-point score.

    Attacking Phase
Following the warm-up drill, Hyndman took to midfield for a little offense versus defense. While Monday’s training session focused almost exclusively on defense, today’s session was all about offense. Several players traded in and out on the defensive side of the ball while waves of attacking-minded players ran at them as if they were starting an FC Dallas counter-attack.

    One More Highlight
A towering ball out of the back from Brek Shea started the counter-attack. Avila did well to collect the cross just before it crossed the touch line. Once he controlled the ball, Avila was off to goal. Running at a defender, Avila opened space for a pass across the face of goal to Andrew Jacobson, who blasted a ball high to the near post. A perfectly struck ball, the shot rattled the crossbar before settling into the near side-netting.

  • Quote of the Day
“We’re not thinking about last season or getting revenge against Colorado,” FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman said. “We’re looking at this game as an opportunity to get a win at home against a good opponent.”
