Midfielder Daniel Hernandez undergoes successful knee surgery

FRISCO, Texas (Nov. 29, 2010) – FC Dallas captain Daniel Hernandez underwent successful surgery on his right knee this morning to remove a portion of his lateral meniscus. The surgery was performed at Baylor University Medical Center by Dr. Virgil Medlock and Dr. John Heinrich.

Hernandez suffered the injury after the first leg of the Western Conference Semifinal versus Real Salt Lake, but put off surgery until following the Dallas side’s playoff run. Hernandez guided FC Dallas to its first Western Conference Championship with a 3-0 win over the L.A. Galaxy, earning the club’s first trip to the MLS Cup.

The veteran midfielder is expected to make a full recovery from the knee surgery in four to six weeks. Hernandez was made available in the 2010 MLS expansion draft, but was protected after Dax McCarty was selected with the first overall pick by Portland. The 2010 team captain has made no secret of his desire to finish his career in Dallas, and is expected to return to the team in time for the 2011 preseason.
