Once again, there was lots to talk about when it comes to FC Dallas over the past couple of weeks. Kevin Hartman as an idol, Brek Shea impressing on the International level, a remembrance of September 11, 2001, and a colorful review of FC Dallas’ recent play all feature in this week’s Morning Clippings.




Thursday, September 8: FC Dallas' Hartman plays hero role for teenager Sanchez (MLSsoccer.com)


FC Dallas goalkeeper Richard Sanchez has idolized Kevin Hartman since he was a young boy living in Van Nuys, California. Sanchez now gets to learn from Hartman every day after becoming the sixth Home Grown player to sign a professional contract with FC Dallas.




Friday, September 9: FC Dallas, the cradle of four pro coaches (SportsDayDFW)


Four former FC Dallas/Burn players have reached the rank of head coach. Jason Kreis (Real Salt Lake), Hugo Sanchez (Puma), Steve Morrow (FC Dallas), and now Leonel Alvarez (Colombian National Team) have all achieved the position.




Saturday, September 10: Brek Shea and the US National Team (MLSreserves.com)


After rejoining FC Dallas in New England following his call up to the U.S. National Team, winger Brek Shea spoke to Lucas Lohr of MLSreserves.com. Among other things, Shea discusses his tendency to run at defenders, playing against a European team in Belgium, his recent success under Jurgen Klinsmann and the leadership of FC Dallas captain Daniel Hernandez.




Sunday, September 11: Daniel Hernandez and Kevin Hartman remember Sept. 11, 2001 (MLSsoccer.com)


FC Dallas captain Daniel Hernandez, formerly a member of the New York MetroStars, recalls his memories from Sept. 11, 2001 in this article by John Bolster which was published on Sept. 6, 2011. Training just 20 minutes from Ground Zero, Hernandez remembers the flood of rescue vehicles headed towards the city. Hernandez's opponent in the first game back in New York City after Sept. 11 was against the LA Galaxy featuring current FC Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, who discusses the game's ability to "help people forget their worries, if only for a couple of hours."




Monday, September 12: Brek Shea: Next American Superstar? (Goal.com)


Justin Churchill of Goal.com describes why Brek Shea could be the next American superstar. Shea has improved his play year after year and is still only 21 years old. His recent time spent with the U.S. Men’s National Team has helped put his abilities on display, being widely regarded as one of the best players for the U.S. during his recent matches.




Tuesday, September 13: Richard Sanchez cover story (ESPN RISE)


FC Dallas and U-17 FIFA World Cup Champion goalkeeper Richard Sanchez was recently featured as the cover story for ESPN High School Magazine’s coverage of Hispanic Heritage Month. Accompanied by a video feature, the Matthew Remsberg piece focuses on Sanchez’s journey from a 10-year-old playing in an ODP tournament in Ensenada in Baja, California to becoming the top goalkeeper for the U-17 FIFA World Cup Champions. Sanchez also discusses the stereotypes which exist between his two countries – the U.S. and Mexico – his admiration for FC Dallas and the pride he feels for being the first American-born player to win a FIFA men’s tournament.




Wednesday, September 14: FC Dallas mourns loss of Academy player (Washington Post)


FC Dallas Academy player Jose Perez passed away Tuesday, September 13 in Houston. Perez was a very talented midfielder for the U-18 team. He scored six goals in 30 games last season and was a part of the team that beat Spanish powerhouse Barcelona 3-1 in the Dallas Cup. Perez also spent time on the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team.




Friday, September 16: A Colorful Review of FC Dallas (DallasObserver.com)


Justin Bitner attended FC Dallas’ latest CCL match against Tauro FC and relates his views of the team’s recent success. Bitner talks about Hartman playing on a different planet, Daniel Cruz finally settling in, and the hopeful return of key players.
