Here are a few reasons to tune in this Sunday on TXA 21.
Context
FC Dallas and Seattle Sounders have become regular playoff foes in recent years. Although this game was a regular season matchup, there was still plenty on the line. Dallas entered the game on a six-game winless run, the first its kind under head coach Luchi Gonzalez. With a new coaching staff and a myriad of young players in FCD’s ranks, this was a massive test to turn their fortunes around. Seattle was in second place in the West when they travelled to Toyota Stadium but was coming off a disappointing 3-2 loss away to Sporting KC. The stage was set for an exciting Western Conference showdown in Frisco.

A Game of Deflections
This game was particularly interesting as all three goals came via deflections or own goals. Both FCD’s first-half goals were put in the net by Seattle defenders and Raúl Ruidíaz’s 65th minute strike flicked off Matt Hedges before looping over Jesse González to halve the deficit. While there was an element of luck in each goal, both teams did well to create dangerous situations and put the opposing defenders on the back foot.
Magic Mikey
While Dallas’ goals were ultimately forced over the line by Seattle players, the ever-present Michael Barrios had a hand in their creation. There are few better in the league at beating their defender 1v1 and his pinpoint crosses rarely miss their mark. Barrios enjoyed a productive 2019 season and finished with a career-high 15 assists; 13 of which were direct assists—the most in MLS.
