How Both Teams Got Here

North Texas SC and Club Deportivo Tapatío are set to face off in this year’s MLS NEXT Pro Invitational. North Texas earned its place in the tournament by winning the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro title, while Tapatío secured its spot after defeating Leones Negros UdeG in the Campeón de Campeones final this past June. The Invitational has been held every year since MLS NEXT Pro’s inception. This year marks the second edition featuring a head-to-head duel between an MLS NEXT Pro team and a club from Liga BBVA Expansión MX. The winner will take home a trophy in what promises to be an exciting international clash.

Toyota Stadium Success

North Texas SC has a strong track record in big matches at Toyota Stadium. The club is a perfect 2-for-2 in title games at the venue, having won the 2019 USL League One championship and the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro title. This will be NTSC’s first full 90-minute international match since taking on Sevilla FC on July 17, 2019. With a trophy on the line once again, North Texas will be looking to create another magical night in Frisco.

Club Deportivo Tapatío

Tapatío is coached by Arturo Ortega, who took the helm during the offseason. The team finished 10th in the 2024–25 Clausura with a 6-7-1 record and 19 points. A player to watch is center back Diego Delgadillo, who opened the scoring in the second leg of the Campeón de Campeones final. Tapatío enters the match coming off a 5-0 preseason win over Tapachula FC.
